Congratulations to the Westland High School Marching Cougars for their Superior Rating and Best Marching Band Designation in Class AA at the competition at Logan Elm High School this weekend.

 

Any boy not currently playing a sport and is interested in playing baseball this year, there is weight lifting Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-6 in the rec. contact Coach Shannon for more details.

The Westland golf team lost to Hilliard Darby 196-222.  Leading the Cougars was Eli Epling with a 47 and Sam Stutz with a 52.  The Cougars return to action next week against Groveport.

Congratulations to Anna Ebert and Chloe Elliot for winning their tennis matches against Bishop Ready last night!

Last night the Cross Country Teams competed in the 20-Team Arrowhead Invitational at Whetstone High School. The men’s team finished in 8th place overall and produced two Medalists in Seniors Billy Holland (22nd) and Kevin Reyes (24th). The Women’s team had an astonishing 3rd place team finish as they were lead by Medalists senior Aja Nathans (12th) and freshman Jordyn Anderson (20th). The XC team will take the weekend off but will be back in action on Sept 29th as they take to the hills of the London Country Club for a 5,000 meter contest.

Girls’ Soccer took on the Heath Bulldogs last night in a thrilling game that ended in a 3-3 tie. Shelbey Barnhill and Bella Garner continued their scoring for your Cougars and the team is now only one goal behind last season’s total.  We take on Dublin Coffman tomorrow night, at home.

Congratulations to our Lady Cougar Varsity Volleyball on their win last night against Whitehall. Come out and support them as they take on Hilliard Davidson on Thursday in the main gym. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity is right after. Go Cougars.

Lady Cougar tennis has a match tonight at home at 4PM against Bishop Ready. Come out to the courts and show some support!

WHS Gymnastics – Open gyms start Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Gotta Flip Gym and will continue every Wednesday at the same time through the end of September. Season starts November 2018 so get signed up now. Stop in the Student Office and get a flier or stop by the Athletic Office for more information.

 

Over the weekend the Cross Country Teams competed at the Galion Cross Country Festival. Even though the temperature on the course were near the 90’s. That didn’t stop some of the Cougar harriers from running their best. Congratulations to Christian Placencia, Jordyn Anderson and Henry Jones on setting new Personal Records.

The XC team next competes on Wednesday at the Arrowhead Invitational at Whetstone Park of Roses.

 

A big shout out to the Cougar Football program for their sweep of Franklin Heights this weekend. Varsity won 38-7 and JV won 38-34. Great job Cougars!

On Saturday the Cross Country teams ran through a giant 3 mile mud pit at Watkins Memorial. The weather didn’t slow down the Cougars as they had a very strong showing. The Boys team, paced by newcomer Jacob Carpenter and Senior Billy Holland place 10th out of 20 teams. While the Girls team had an individual medalist in Aja Nathans, who finished 12th in a field of nearly 300 runners. The XC team will compete at the Galion XC festival on Saturday.

 

Boys’ Basketball study tables are CANCELLED for Monday, September 10 only. They will continue Wednesday, September 12 from 3:30-4:30 and run Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 through October.

Conditioning is Tuesday and Thursday from 4 – 5:30 in the Rec and Saturday from 6 AM to 7:30 AM in the Rec.

Open Gym is Wednesday, September 12 from 7 PM to 8:30 PM in the gym.

Hello Cougars!

The first Student Council Meeting of the year will be TODAY after school. The meeting is in room 709 and will be from 3:30-4:15. Hey Seniors!  Do you want to be more involved with making decisions for the senior class?  Do you have great ideas on end-of-the-school year activities?  Are you interested in running for the Class of 2019 President, Vice-President, or Secretary?  Petitions to become a senior class officer are available in the student office.  The deadline to have the petition turned is September 21.  Voting will take place soon after!  See Mrs. Hibbitt or Ms. Dillon for more information!

 

 

The Westland In The Know Team will be meeting Tuesday morning, September 11th, in room 403 at 7:30 AM.  Any student who appreciates Jeopardy-like trivia questions and wants to be on TV should come.  See Mr. VanDyne in rooms 403 or 504 throughout the day with any questions.

 

 

All current NHS members, listen up! We are going to be having our first meeting of the year TODAY in room 508 Kissels room. If you did not attend this morning’s meeting, we will meet from 3:30-4:00 in the afternoon. Again, you only need to come to ONE of these meetings. Please bring 2 fundraiser ideas and 2 community service ideas with you to the meeting. If you are unable to attend, you must speak with Mrs. Weber or Mr. Kissel.

 

SPORTS

WHS Gymnastics – Open gyms start Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Gotta Flip Gym and will continue every Wednesday at the same time through the end of September. Season starts November 2018 so get signed up now. Stop in the Student Office and get a flier or stop by the Athletic Office for more information.

 

The Volleyball team takes on Dublin Coffman today at home starting at 5:30 PM. This is a big game for the team so lets show up and show our support!
