Attention all Freshmen!!

Alright stop, collaborate, and listen!!!  No one turned in a class officer nomination form?  We have extended the deadline to turn in the nomination form until Friday, September 29th.  We want student involvement in helping us to decide cool things planned for our Freshman.  You don’t want Mr. Eckard and Mrs. Shore making all of the decisions for the the Freshman class…they think Vanilla Ice is great rapper!!  Nomination forms are available at the desk in the student office.

 

Attention all current or future otakus! Anime Club will be meeting tomorrow morning in Room 706 before school. We will be watching the first episode of Hunter x Hunter. See you there!

 

Here’s your daily Hispanic Heritage Month Fact, Enjoy: Did you know that Latinos of Mexican descent make up approximately 2/3rd’s of Hispanic Americans in the U.S.!! That’s more than 35.3 million people!! Puerto Ricans come in second with more than 5.3 million, and Salvadorans, Cubans, Dominicans, Guatemalans, and Colombians each have more than 1 million people in the U.S. each.

 

Good Morning Cougars! The next student council meeting will be after school TODAY in room 709. We will be having snacks and taking care of details for homecoming and spirit week. New members are still welcome, so if you haven’t come to a meeting yet feel free to join us! Bring your favorite markers and glitter. See you TODAY! Attention all writers out there! Eager to get those Cougar Paws into a new story? Pencil Dust is here to take care of you. We will be meeting in Room 706 after school on Thursday and will be discussing the direction of our book. Hope to see you there.

 

The SWCSD College Fair will be on Tuesday, September 26 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Grove City HS Rec Center. All branches of the US military and nearly 80 colleges and universities will be available to provide information and answer questions. In addition, there will be a Financial Aid Workshop at 7:00 PM. Financial aid experts from local colleges and universities will provide an overview of the financial aid process. ALL are welcome! Admission is FREE!

 

QuestBridge is pleased to announce the 2017 QuestBridge National College Match. Quest Bridge is open to seniors in the top 5-10% of their class.

To qualify, you must score greater than 1310 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT & come from households earning less than $65,000/yr. From this program you can receive full 4 year scholarships worth over $200,000. Apply online at http://www.questbridge.org

Homecoming 2017 will be held at the Makoy Center in Hilliard on Saturday, October 14 from 7-10 PM. All school rules apply including dress code. Early bird tickets will be $10 from October 2 until October 6 and then will increase to $15 from October 9 until October 13. Stay tuned for more information about spirit week!

 

Attention all that are interested in Spanish Club! We will be having our kick off meeting Wednesday, Sept 27 in room 802. Come learn about the changes to the club, to see what events we are planning on putting on, and to discuss tshirts/food. All are welcome even if you are not in a Spanish class.

 

Attention college bound students – The PSAT is now for sale at the activity window during your lunch periods. This is a great way to practice for your college entrance exams. Juniors – this test is especially important for you as it can qualify you for National Merit Scholarship consideration. The test is October 11th in the gym. The cost is $16. If you have free or reduced lunch you can qualify for a fee waiver. We have 100 tests and 50 fee waivers. Once they are gone they’re gone. So sign up today

 

Attn: Juniors & Seniors – Columbus State is getting ready for Visit Days at both Columbus and Delaware campuses. All juniors & seniors are invited. On this visit you can learn about transfer options to their 4-year partners, discover how to avoid college debt, meet faculty and take a campus tour! The visit dates are Fri. Oct 20, Fri. Are you a hispanic student interested in the STEM field? STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. Ohio State University is holding an evening event where you can learn all about the university’s STEM programs, financial aid, and college applications. Do you like to read? Want bragging rights over all the other South-Western High Schools? Then, come and learn more about the 2017 Battle of the Books competition! Last year, the Westland Battle of the Books team crushed Franklin Heights. Join us at our informational meeting on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:40 AM OR 3:20 PM. If interested, you only need to attend one meeting that day – either before school or after school. The meetings are held in the library.

There are a few events coming up! Come support one or more and show your cougar unity!

Girls Varisty Volleyball takes on Marysville away on Tuesday. Boys Varsity Soccer faces off against Upper Arlington at Home tomorrow night, Girls Soccer travels to UA, and Girls tennis plays Hamilton Township at home tomorrow.

Also, wrestling open mats are tonight from 5:30-7:30.
