Do you like to write? Do you like history? Want to win $10,000? Submit an essay to the Profile in Courage Essay Contest. Your essay must describe and analyze an act of political courage by any US elected official who served during or after 1917. For more information, see Mrs. Young in the library. Submissions are due January 4.

 

Are you a senior going to college? You MUST fill out the FAFSA. The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This process is mandatory & it can be confusing so you should go to FAFSA day on Sunday, November 12 at 2pm at Central Crossing HS. Professional financial aid advisors will be there to help you complete the FAFSA. Registration is on the Senior Google Classroom, register TODAY!

 

Attention Student Council members! The next student council meeting will be after school on Wednesday, November 15. We will plan our Winter Service Project. See Mr. Cherup or Mrs. Dufresne if you know you are unable to attend.

 

 

Get a ticket to see the fall play. Testing Testing takes a look at high school and the comedy and drama behind taking tests.  Tickets go on sale Friday for $3.00.  The performance will be Thursday, November 9th during first and second periods. Get your ticket today. Only students in good standing may purchase a ticket. As a reminder, good standing means students must have no suspensions this year, no failing grades in any classes, and no more than 10 absences or tardies of any kind.

 

In need of a book to read? a book to keep? Stop by the library and take one of our FREE BOOKS! The free books are located in the library quiet study area at the front corner of the library.

 

The National Honor Society will be hosting a fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse on Hilliard Rome Rd on November 14 from 4-10 PM. Go eat some tasty food and support NHS and Westland!

 

This month’s French club will be held on Wednesday, November 15th after school in room 901. French club runs until 4:15. Come participate in a holiday activity and enjoy a French snack!

 

Jostens will return to Westland High School on Friday, November 10th during the lunch periods to collect senior graduation orders including Cap & gown and Cougar Packages..

Please remember to bring in your completed order form as well as your payment.

November is Native American Heritage month. Be sure to read the signs around school, especially on the Cultural Diversity Board across from the ERC, to learn more about the original Americans.

 

Like writing poetry? Want to win $500? Participate in the Scholastic Publishing Student Poetry Contest. You may submit entries of no less than 2 lines and no more than 20, in any form other than concrete or blackout. See Mrs. Young in the library for more information on how to submit.

 

Attention class of 2020- your class is holding a t-shirt contest. Please submit all t-shirt design ideas to Mrs. Vonderhaar in room 905 by November 11.

 

Sports

Congrats to the following football players on their All-OCC post season awards. Honorable mention- Geno Sekura. Special mention – Soriba Kaba . 2nd team – Anthony Widen and Trent Bott. 1st team and co-player of the year Ousmane Dabo.  Congrats to Trent Bott on earning honorable mention All- Central District. Also, Big Congrats to Ousmane Dabo on earning 2nd team All-central district. This makes Ousmane one of the top 8 defensive backs in all of the division 1 Central Ohio schools .
