Attention Seniors: There are (2) scholarship opportunities open to Westland High School students only! The Garrett P. Burton Good Samaritan Scholarship  is for a student “Being an Agent of Change.” You must be able to show how you help people feel more accepted and go above and beyond to spread joy & compassion. The deadline to apply is April 26th.

Also, The James Tolliver Cultural Diversity Scholarship is available. This scholarship is for a WHS student who has participated in at least 2 WHS Cultural Diversity Club activities. See Naviance for more details.

 

Attention Westland students! Pencil Dust, our school’s creative arts magazine, is holding its annual poetry competition, and we are collecting submissions from now until March 5th. If you’re interested in writing poetry, songs, stories, or anything in between, we would love to see your work! Your English teachers will be collecting submissions, or you can turn them in straight to Mr. Spooner anytime before the deadline. It’s time for the annual Valentine’s Day Carnation sale!!! Show your friends and sweetie how much you care… surprise them with flowers delivered to their homeroom on Valentine’s Day. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women is excited to announce the 2018 Academic Scholarship Award of $2000! The Veterinary Exploration Conference, held in conjunction with the MVC, is an opportunity for students to get a glimpse of everything the veterinary medical field has to offer and what it takes to get there.  This event is open to current juniors and seniors only. At the conclusion of the conference, attendees are invited to a college fair where representatives from several veterinary and technician schools will be available to answer questions about admissions criteria, how to finance a veterinary education, and more.

Ohio PTA $500 scholarship is available.  Go to http://www.ohiopta.org and fill out the application, print it off and return to your school counselor.  You need one letter of recommendation- don’t wait until the last minute to ask for this recommendation.  Due by 3pm on March 1st.  We will deliver to the PTA office.

This announcement from Dr. Miller is to inform all students of our morning opportunities and new leadership program.  The ERC now opens at 7:30am for silent readers ONLY, overseen by Mrs. Andy, ERC Aide.  Your book is your pass in order to cut through the main office at 7:25am.

The gym is open for organized play overseen by Mr. Fitzgerald.

The second floor Gymnasium Mezz is open for our gaming area.  Board games are already there and electronic gaming is welcome.   You must enter at the cafeteria second floor mezz.

Wednesday mornings ONLY, Ayanna Grace will run a leadership session in the auditorium.  In order to play ball in the gym on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, you must attend Wednesday’s leadership session from 7:15am-7:55am.

 

 

Columbus State is  hosting a 3 day summer camp focusing on Logistics Engineering Technology! The camp runs from July 18-20, 2018 and is from 9:00am – 4:00pm each day.  It is open to current high school seniors who want to explore the newest STEM career pathway. WHS will be offering ACT boot camp to juniors on February 12th.  This is a $20 workshop to help you prepare for the February 27th ACT that all WHS juniors will be taking. You will leave with study materials and test taking strategies.

Happy New Year! The William D. Squires Educational has been awarding college scholarships to high school students from the great state of Ohio since 2000.
