Today for lunch you may choose from an Big Daddy’s Pizza, or a Beef Coney Dog with Sauce and Cheese. The side for today is Baked Beans. Other Daily Options include a Chef Salad with Bread item, a Deli Sandwich, or an uncrustable PB&J Sandwich.


Any senior wishing to work at the Election polls must see Mr. Daniels immediately to sign up.  It pays $150.


Are you wanting to get more involved in things at Westland? Do you want to help plan Homecoming? Are you looking for a way to earn service hours? Do you love pizza? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, Student Council is the group for you! The first Student Council Meeting of the year will be after school on Thursday, September 6. The meetings take place in room 709 and are from 3:30-4:15. If you think you are interested in joining student council OR if you are a returning member, this is the meeting for you. Please plan to attend. See Mrs. Dufresne or Mr. Cherup with any questions.

CSCI 1101 – Computer Concepts and Applications

CSCI 1103 – Intro to Programming Logic

CSCI 1320 – Database Fundamentals

CSCI 1511 – Python


Students can take advantage of the entire program OR take advantage of individual courses I’ve listed. Included in the individual course is any student who wants to take Calculus II (assuming they’ve taken AP Calculus I and scored a 3 or higher). Calculus II, known as MATH 1152 is offered during the second semester of the STEM program.


Students will need to meet the placement score requirements if interested. See Mrs. Hibbitt with any questions by FRIDAY 8/31.


The Westland Paw Pit will make their grand opening today for the entire school.  Come check us out during your lunch period and see all our new food and drink items including popcorn and slushies! Attention Cougars!! Voting for Homecoming King, Queen, and Court will be coming soon to your email inbox! Voting will begin in early September. Now is the chance to spread the word if you want to be on court or if you want to be King or Queen! Be sure to check your student email accounts often for important information from your teachers, counselors, and other clubs and groups.


The first Art Club meeting of the year will be next Wednesday after school in room 1001 (Mr. Meeker’s room) until 5 PM. Anyone interested in joining art club can come! See you there.



WHS Gymnastics – Open gyms start Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Gotta Flip Gym and will continue every Wednesday at the same time through the end of September. Season starts November 2018 so get signed up now. Stop in the Student Office and get a flier or stop by the Athletic Office for more information.


Attention all track athletes and those interested in running track this year.  Track and cross-country are working the home and visitor concessions for October 5th, home football games.  There is a sign-up sheet outside of room 801 to sign up to work.  You will earn $25.00 toward your track pay to play if you work this night.  Also, track is working concessions for all of the home volleyball games.  There are sign-up sheets outside of room 801 for these games as well.  You will earn $25.00 toward your track pay to play for every volleyball game you work.  There are a limited number of volunteers needed so sign up ASAP.  See Coach Eckard if you have any questions.


Last night, the boys’ soccer program traveled to Canal Winchester.  The jv team lost a hard fought match, 3-2.  Jayden Bruna and Abdalle Ali scored for the squad.  The team will play tomorrow night at Briggs at 5:30.


The varsity team tied Canal Winchester 1-1 to remain undefeated on the season.  Axel Rodriguez scored the lone goal on an assist from Van (Pronounced Vawn) Dam.  Trent Beach made several nice saves in goal while the team played well defensively.  The team will travel to Briggs tomorrow night for a 7:15 match.


Wrestlers have lifting after school Monday through Thursday until 5:30 in the Rec Center.


The girls tennis team fought hard against Dublin Coffman last night. Nice job, ladies.


This week, the football team takes on the Marion Red Devils at home. Let’s show up on Friday and show our support! The theme for the game is “White Out”. Games start at 7 PM.
