The theme for the Aperture, Westland’s 2018-2019 yearbook, has been decided!! The winner is “The Westside Story,” thanks to all who voted!!

Now, listen up all of you talented artists at Westland High School!

We are looking for a unique yearbook design cover that will reflect our theme, The Westside Story. The design may be drawn on paper or submitted electronically to the yearbook advisers: Mr. Peters or Ms. Reynolds for consideration. The submission size should be approximately 8.5×11 inches. The deadline for submitting your design is January 3, 2019.

Hey creative cougars! Each month for the rest of the year, Pencil Dust, our school’s creative arts magazine, will be asking for submissions based on a theme. Since it’s October, our theme this month is spooky stories. Whether it’s stories about monsters, ghosts, or things that scare you in the night, we would love to see your best ideas. Please bring all submissions to Mr. Spooner.

 

The Westland AFJROTC will be collecting canned or boxed food items on Monday, 29 October through Wednesday 31 October. Cadets will be at the school main entrance from 7:20-7:50 collecting the items. All collected items will be donated to the Columbus Veterans Food Bank and as an incentive, If you bring in 2 or more items you will receive a special treat.

Spanish Club will have it’s first official meeting of the year to celebrate the Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos. Join us Thursday, November 1st from 3:30-4:30 for some food and cultural discussion. Also, we will watch part of Coco and discuss the many cultural influences present in the film. Nos vemos, allí!

 

Tickets for Night of the Living Dead will be on sale TODAY through next Wednesday for the in school performance which takes place on Thursday during 1st and 2nd periods. Tickets are $3.

Thinking of joining the swim team? Come to the open pool sessions at the Urbancrest YMCA on Monday and Tuesday from 3:45 – 5:30. Bring a one-piece swimsuit, a towel, and goggles.

 

The Girls basketball team will be having tryouts starting on Monday, October 29th. If you are interested in playing, you will need to be in the main gym by 3:40 on Monday. If you have any questions please see Coach Jaynes in room 711.

 

Boys basketball- in order to try out for the team this season you musr have a current physical exam on file by November 1st. Turn these in to Coach Hayes DIRECTLY. Physicals are only good for ONE YEAR, so unloess you have a physical already on file from a 2018 spring or fall sport YOU MUST GET ANOTHER ONE.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PHYSICAL ON FILE YOU CAN NOT TRY OUT.

Boys’ Basketball Tryouts for Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors will be Friday, November 2nd from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM AND Saturday, November 3rd from 8 AM to 10 AM.

Tryouts for FRESHMEN ONLY will be Saturday, November 3rd from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.

You must have a physical on file to try out. Your eligibility will be checked at the door, we will not try out ineligible players.

 

Attention Girls’ Soccer players. Please remember to drop off your uniforms to Coach Schwarten in room 802 before our banquet. Thank you.

 

Wrestling will start for non-football players on Monday, October 29 in the wrestling room at 3:45 sharp. Football players are allowed to start on the 29, but may have the week off. Wrestlers who played football are expected to start on Monday, November 5.
