South-Western Career Academy is having a Community Day Showcase!The event is Thursday, May 2 from 1:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m at the career academy, located at 4750 Big Run South Rd, Grove City, OH.

The Westland Gaming Club will meet after school today from 3:30-5pm in the music wing. Thank you to everyone for bringing games to share with the club. Please remember that all students that stay after school must submit a permission form to Mr. Kaufman. We hope to see you there!

Seniors! Check your email to nominate your 2019 prom court. Top 4 male and top 4 female nominations will be put on a second ballot for you to vote for 2019 king and queen.

Southwestern City Schools will be holding a career fair and community career expo on Wednesday April 24.  This career fair will be from 6-8pm at Central Crossing High School. Please note the change of location.  All Westland juniors and seniors are invited and encouraged to attend this event.  Companies who will be participating and are looking to hire include Abercrombie & Fitch, BMW Financial Services, Honda, Lululemon, OhioHealth, The Columbus Dispatch, FedEx, and The Ohio State Highway Patrol.  There will be over 50 companies in attendance, as well as representatives from Columbus State and a resume writing workshop.  Also, there will be a food truck to provide free meals to all those who attend.  Participating students should bring an updated resume and plan to dress in interview clothing.  Please see Mr. Armstrong or Mr. Abbott with any specific questions.

The last French club of the year will be after school TODAY. It will be held after school in the foods lab until about 4:15. We will be making the French sandwich croque monsieurs. Come celebrate spring with us!

Westland Battle of the Books team fought hard last night at Westerville North high school. Not only did they double their team size this year, but they significantly increased their overall team score. Great job, readers!

 

SPORTS

The Central Crossing and Westland swim teams will be running joint conditioning sessions this Spring. Workouts will take place at Central on Wednesdays from 3:45-5:00. Meet at the wrestling room. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the teams will meet at the Westland Rec Center from 4:30-5:45. All students are welcome – you do have to be a current member of the swim team to join the workout. Make sure to wear tennis shoes and bring water.

Congratulations go out to the girls track team for their many personal records that were set last night vs. Groveport.  Winning for the girls’ team were Aja Nathans in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run and Rylea Bott in the discus.  The boys’ team also had a great meet with most athletes setting new P.R.s.  Winning for the boys’ team were Dereece Holton in the 100 meter dash, Drew Hutchinson in the 1600 and the 3200, Kyle West in the 400 meter dash, Timmy Wotring in the 300 meter hurdles, and Kevin Delgado in the long jump and the high jump.  The Cougar track team next competes at Olentangy Liberty this Friday.

The Westland High School Cultural Diversity Festival is after school Thursday, April 11! The event is from 5-7:30. Bring some money to sample delicious foods from around the world and enjoy various other events that showcase the diversity that makes Westland such a vibrant and wonderful place.

This evening workshop for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students and your families will give you important information about how to start saving and pay for college! This workshop is FREE and includes dinner, childcare and transportation assistance if needed. Look for your invitation in the mail with registration information or visit I Know I Can.org to sign up!

You will get the chance to sharpen your civics knowledge during this fun, fact-filled evening of trivia and games where you are quizzed about things like the basic workings of the government, key provisions of the Constitution, and other related topics. This event is next Monday, April 15, at 6 PM! It is hosted by our very own Ms. Kendralla! To register, check out eventbrite.

Winning for the boys team were Abdi Aden in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, Bakar Dabo in the shot put, Kevin Delgado in the long jump, and the 4 X 2 team consisting of Kyle West, Jack Little, David Chambers, and Arty Washington. Winning for the girls team was Aja Nathans in the 1600 meter run. Your Runnin’ Cougars next compete at Franklin Heights in the Best of the Southwest meet this Friday.

Congratulations to senior Abdi Aden for his impressive win in the 300 meter hurdles at the 16 team Fairfield Union Invitational on Saturday.  Congratulations also go out to the boys 4 X 100 relay team consisting of Jack Little, Kyle West, David Chambers, and Arty Washington for their 2nd place finish at Saturday’s meet.  Placing in the top 5 in their event at Saturday’s meet include Bakar Dabo in the shot put, Abraham Perez in the 800 meter run, and Abdi Aden in the high jump and long jump.  The Runnin’ Cougars next compete at Grove City tomorrow in a 4 team meet.

Congratulations to the baseball team for winning the first game of the doubleheader against Franklin Heights this weekend.

Good luck to the boys as they take on Marysville today at home.
